He additionally offered medals in war-torn Kyiv to the households of fallen troopers – holding a second of silence of their honour.

The embattled chief stated: “Ukrainian pilots, anti-aircraft fighters and all those that defend our airspace have turned out to be far more skilled, braver and extra motivated”.

This comes as Russian troopers surrounded in Ukraine begged their defence minister to assist them escape.
